| ABOUT IOLANTHE: |
| Iolanthe is Gilbert and Sullivan's classic "fairy operetta"--a take on parliamentary politics, with its chorus of members of the House of Lords jealously guarding their legislative privileges while the women's chorus of fairies merrily undermines them, all in aid of Strephon, the half-mortal, half-fairy shepherd-turned Member of Parliament who loves Phyllis, a ward of the Lord Chancellor, Britain's chief legal officer. Meanwhile, the fairy Iolanthe feels she must reveal a great secret, even if it carries with it a heavy price. Iolanthe is a two-act comic opera with soloists, a full chorus, and orchestra.
