Join us for a special one-night-only screening of “What Happened, Miss Simone?” brought to you as the first installment of Cinema Capitol’s Black History Month 2020 Series.

Kicking off the Black History Month program is a documentary about Nina Simone. The documentary follows the life of a true artist and activist and includes never-before-heard recordings, rare archival footage and her best-known songs, Also screening that evening is a short documentary about the life of Hazel Scott-an mid 20th Century African-American musician that has been all but forgotten. Her accomplishments include: a career as a virtuoso touring pianist ; a band leader whose members included bassist Charlie Mingus and drummer Rudy Nichols, a TV series that ran during the summer of 1950- it was one of the first U.S. network television series to be hosted by any person of African descent, and a Hollywood film career.
