The evening begins with a pre-movie wine, beer and hors d’oeuvres reception featuring a live performance by the Doc Woods trio. “Doctuh” Michael Woods, the Leonard C. Ferguson Professor of Music at Hamilton College since 1980, is a bassist, educator, and composer who has written more than 700 compositions. His works have been performed by the Albany Symphony, Cleveland Chamber Ensemble and Erie Philharmonic Orchestra to name a few.

A Night of Jazz continues with this revelatory, thrilling and emotional journey behind the scenes of Blue Note Records, the pioneering label that gave voice to some of the finest jazz artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. Blue Note Records: Behind the Scenes explores the unique vision behind the iconic jazz record label. Through rare archival footage, current recording sessions and conversations with Blue Note artists, the film reveals a powerful mission and illuminates the vital connections between jazz and hip hop. With Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Robert Glasper, Norah Jones, Don Was and many more.
Preceding the movie will be a locally produced short called “Impressions In Black and White”. The short film includes insights and observations from African Americans in the area about their personal life experiences.
