Celebrate America 250 with the Art of Dance and Film

In honor of the semiquincentennial of the founding of the United States, the historic Capitol Theatre will host Celebrate America 250 with the Art of Dance and Film. The event will take place on Friday, August 21, at 6:30 PM. A benefit for the Capitol Theatre, the evening will feature the new movie FREEDOM RENEGADE and performances by area dance studios.

FREEDOM RENEGADE, a short artistic feature directed by Bo Pressley, was filmed at several locations across the Mohawk Valley, including the Capitol Theatre. The movie follows three men, each an embodiment of freedom, as they gather at the Snubbing Post. With a score of music by Johann Sebastian Bach, FREEDOM RENEGADE was an Official Selection at the Aesthetica Short Film Festival, the International Sound & Film Music Festival, and FLIGHT/Mostra Internazionale del Cinema di Genova, as well as an Honorable Mention at the Macoproject Film Festival.

FREEDOM RENEGADE is the directorial debut of Bo Pressley, an artist, model, and dancer whose career has led him to work with many modern dance institutions. These include the Merce Cunningham Trust and the Martha Graham Dance Ensemble. His work has been performed and featured at global cultural venues, including Lincoln Center and the Whitney Museum of American Art.

In addition to the movie, the event will feature performances by students from area dance studios and a Q&A with Bo Pressley. FREEDOM RENEGADE runs 49 minutes and is not rated. The entire program is expected to be approximately 95 minutes.

Admission to Celebrate America 250 with the Art of Dance and Film is free. However, donations to benefit the Capitol are gratefully accepted. All who make a donation of any amount will be invited to a reception at the Arsenal House following the performance.
