Matilda (1996)

This beloved 1996 film adaptation of the book Matilda, by British children’s author Roald Dahl, directed by Danny DeVito was a hit in theaters and remains a movie book-lovers of all ages hold dear!

Matilda Wormwood (Mara Wilson) is an extremely curious and intelligent little girl who is very different from her cruel and dull parents (Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman). As Matilda grows older, she begins to discover that she has telekinetic powers but it isn’t until a teacher shows her kindness for the first time that she realizes she can use her extraordinary powers to do something about her suffering and possibly to help others as well! All the villains in Matilda’s life, from the awful Headmistress, Miss Trunchbull (Pam Ferris), to her parents and older brother begin to feel her ire in a story that celebrates the power of being different.
