Cinema Capitol will present the biographical movie A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD from Friday, January 10-Thursday, January 16. In addition to its normal weekend and evening show times, the Cinema will offer weekday matinee screenings of the movie.
Lloyd Vogel (Matthew Rhys) is an investigative journalist who receives an assignment to profile beloved television figure Mr. Rogers (Tom Hanks). He approaches the interview with skepticism, as he finds it hard to believe that anyone can have such a good nature. But Roger’s empathy, kindness, and decency soon chips away at Vogel’s jaded outlook on life, forcing the reporter to reconcile with his own painful past. The movie also stars Susan Kelechi Watson, Chris Cooper, Wendy Makkena, and Tammy Blanchard.
A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD was chosen by TIME magazine as one of the ten best films of the year. For his performance in the movie, Hanks was nominated at the Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice, and Screen Actors Guild Awards. The movie has a 95 percent rating on ROTTEN TOMATOES.
ROGEREBERT.COM writes “Hanks’ energy in the role wonderfully gets at what A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD wants to convey.” THE ATLANTIC also writes “It’s a sincere, measured, and clever homage to its subject, a work of storytelling that would have made Mister Rogers proud.”
A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD runs 109 minutes and is rated PG. Admission is $8.00 for adults, $7.00 for students and military, and $6.00 for Capitol Friends.
