Cinema Capitol will present the rock opera ANNETTE through Monday, August 9.
The English-language debut of acclaimed director Leos Carax, ANNETTE follows the life of Henry (Adam Driver), a stand-up comedian with a fierce sense of humor. Having fallen in love with world-renowned opera singer Ann (Marion Cotillard), they make a passionate and glamorous couple. But with the birth of their first child, a mysterious little girl with an exceptional destiny, their lives are turned upside down.
Also starring in ANNETTE are Simon Helberg, Rila Fukushima, Kiko Mizuhara, Natalie Mendoza, and Belgian musician Angèle. The screenplay and music were written by Ron and Russell Mael of the band Sparks and, while many are not singers, the actors’ voices are not dubbed.
ANNETTE was selected as the opening film for the 2021 CANNES FILM FESTIVAL. There, it was awarded “Best Director” and the “Cannes Soundtrack Award.”
TIMES (UK) writes “An anti LA LA LAND with dashes of PINOCCHIO, ANNETTE is a fitting curtain-raiser to a Cannes like no other.” The BBC says that “ANNETTE is sure to be divisive, but it’s a curio that demands to be seen. It’s not as if you get to watch surreal, avant-garde rock operas very often.”
ANETTE will be presented on Friday and Saturday at 4:00 and 7:00, Sunday at 1:00 and 4:00, and Monday at 7:00. There will be no captioned show times for this movie.
Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance or by clicking here. Admission is $8.00 for adults; $7.00 for students and military; and $6.00 for Capitol “Friends.” Masks are not required for those who have been vaccinated, though those who have not been vaccinated are required to wear them.
ANNETTE runs 139 minutes and is rated R.
