he Haunted Capitol: Ghost Seekers of Central New York Presentation, followed by The Innocents (20th Century Fox, 1961, black & white, 100 minutes).
On August 27 of this year Ghost Seekers of Central New York paranormal investigators did an investigation of Rome’s historic Capitol Theatre; their findings were startling. On October 1 the team will offer a presentation on documented spirit activity at the 94-year-old theater, including results from this most recent investigation and previous investigations. Ghost Seekers of Central New York is a professional group of paranormal investigators and researchers with the goal of helping others understand their experiences pertaining to unexplained circumstances. The audio-visual presentation will outline the scientific methods used to conduct their investigations and will reveal visual evidence of the spirits that inhabit the Capitol.
The second part of the program will be a screening of the 1961 psychological horror film, The Innocents. Released by 20th Century Fox, The Innocents is based on Henry James’ supernatural story, The Turn of the Screw, and was brilliantly adapted to the motion picture medium by William Archibald and Truman Capote. Set in Victorian England, the story revolves around a governess (Deborah Kerr) who takes charge of two young children in a Gothic mansion, gradually coming to the realization that the children are possessed by ghostly spirits. Of The Innocents, slash.com says, “60 years later it still remains one of the scariest films ever made;” director Martin Scorsese agrees, including it on his list of the 11 “all-time scariest movies.” The Innocents was the subject of a song by Kate Bush (“The Infant Kiss”) and is on The Guardian’s list of the 25 greatest horror films ever made. Leonard Maltin’s TV & Video Guide gives the movie a three-and-one-half star rating, calling it a “first-rate thriller.” The Innocents (in wide-screen Cinemascope) will be screened via a 4K digital restoration DCP directly from the Walt Disney Corporation.
The entire event, including a 15-minute intermission, is expected to run approx. three hours, 15 minutes.
