Two favorites from the 1960s presented as they would have been at a drive-in theater of the era. Cookout foods available in front of the theater starting at 5:00!

(1.) Mysterious Island (Columbia, 1961; color; 100 minutes; digital presentation [DCP]) Directed by Cy Endfield; with Joan Greenwood, Michael Callan, Gary Merrill, Herbert Lom. “Confederate prison escapees hijack observation balloon and are blown off course; find unchartered with gigantic animals. Great special effects by Ray Harryhousen; rousing Bernard Hermann score.” Based on the novel by Jules Verne. –Leonard Maltin’s Movie and Video Guide.

(2.) The Ghost and Mr. Chicken (Universal, 1961; color; 90 minutes). Directed by Alan Rafkin; with Don Knotts, Joan Staley, Skip Homeier, Dick Sargent, Reta Shaw. Budding reporter Don Knotts receives an assignment to spend the night alone in a haunted house, with unpredictable and hilarious consequences. “Unusually good Don Knotts vehicle with great atmosphere.” —Ken Hanke, Mountain View Xpress.
