As this year’s Capitolfest kick-off movie, we’ve selected Ruggles of Red Gap, a 1935 comedy directed by Leo McCarey and starring Charles Laughton, Mary Boland, Charles Ruggles, and Capitolfest tribute star ZaSu Pitts. Based on the bestselling novel by Harry Leon Wilson, Ruggles of Red Gap follows a British gentleman who discovers “a new birth of freedom” in a small western American town in the early twentieth century. Seen in a digital restoration by Universal Pictures.
Shown as a “pre-glow” to the Capitolfest film festival, which follows August 8-10.
Prices: Adults $5, Capitolfest registrants $3.
