The Capitol presents two shows of classic cartoons from the Fleischer Studios, one specifically designed for families, and the other a reminder that many of these shorts, especially those from the “pre-code” era in American film (1934 and before), were created with adult audiences in mind. The evening show will offer a generous sampling of short subjects that were often considered not “nice” at the time, though all were released by Paramount Pictures and were designed to be shown at main-stream movie shows. (Parental discretion advised.)
The cartoons, some in black & white and some in color, were made at the famed Fleischer Studios in the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s, and feature such characters as Betty Boop, Popeye, and Superman. The recently restored cartoons will be seen in digital presentations directly from Fabulous Fleischer Cartoon Restored.
3:00 pm: Family Matinee (approx. 95 minutes, including intermission) Adults $5, Capitol Friends $4, children (12 and under) $3.
