Comedy Classics Double Feature

Grab your ticket now for The Capitol Theatre’s Comedy Classics Double Feature! This year you’ll be treated to IT’S A GIFT (Paramount, 1934; B&W, 73 minutes) Digital presentation (DCP) and THE ROAD TO MOROCCO (Parmount, 1942; B&W, 83 minutes) Digital presentation (DCP), two of the greatest comedies from Hollywood’s golden age.

In our first feature, W.C. Fields is a small-town grocer with dreams of owning a California orange grove in IT’S A GIFT. Directed by Norman Z. McLeod, the cast also includes Baby LeRoy, Kathleen Howard, Tommy Bupp, Charles Sellon, and T. Roy Barnes. This feature presentation is sponsored by our friends and neighbors at the Keaton & Lloyd Bookshop, who invite you to find out how their beloved shop-cat, Carl LaFong, got his name!

“Beautiful comedy routines in one of the Great Man’s [W.C Fields] unforgettable films.****” –-Leonard Maltin’s TV and Video Guide

The second feature will be the funniest of the Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, and Dorothy Lamour “road” films, THE ROAD TO MOROCCO. Directed by the always quirky David Butler, the ridiculous plot has Bing and Bob stranded in Morocco, where Bob becomes engaged to, but Bing falls in love with, Dorothy Lamour, which enrages her prospective husband, the murderous Mullay Kasim (Anthony Quinn). Songs include “Moonlight Becomes You” (the runaway hit of the season), and the title tune.

“…a bubbling, spontaneous entertainment without a semblance of sanity; an uproarious patch quilt of gags, old situations, and a blitz-like laugh pace that never lets up for a moment.” –Variety
